Though whimsical, old shoes and tiny campers aren't really what most birds need when they are looking for a place to raise their young. With spring (hopefully) just around the corner, it is time to get our birdhouses set up. My spring ToDo list includes figuring out the best location and height for my three, currently-in-limbo, birdhouses. I found that Cornell Lab's Project NestWatch has species-specific birdhouse placement guides and design plans, as well as lovely infographics. I am hoping to attract Bewick's Wrens, Black-capped Chickadees, and maybe Tree or Violet-green Swallows, but all cavity nesters are welcome! |

I like that you said that using natural materials could attract birds more. My cousin mentioned last night that my nephew loves birds and he wants to buy something that will allow them to feed the birds every morning. Thanks to this informative article, I'll tell him he can buy birdhouses by searching through online birdhouses websites to gather information about them.
